AceShowbiz - Gayle King has been showered with praise for her new magazine cover by many, including her former husband. The broadcast journalist for "CBS News" was praised by William Bumpus for making his "teenage fantasy" come true with her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover.
On Sunday, May 19, William shared his reaction upon learning that the 69-year-old TV personality appeared in the magazine cover. In a statement to Page Six, he wrote, "Well, I can mark off one more item on my highly unlikely to ever happen bucket list! My teenage fantasy of hooking up with a Sports Illustrated Model has finally come true."
William went on to voice his thoughts on Gayle's look in the cover, "WOW! Bravo to you Gayle ... You Look Fantastic! Bravo to Sports Illustrated for selecting YOU!" He also said that his former wife has always "been Beautiful Inside and Out (sic)."
William further penned, "I appreciate you more and more as time goes on, as a trailblazer, and also when I see our phenomenal kids and grandkids!" He then concluded, "I am proud of you and continue to wish you nothing but happiness. Enjoy!"
The reaction came after Gayle said that she was curious about William's response to her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover. Recently, she spoke to Entertainment Tonight when she was at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City's Times Square, "I wonder what my ex-husband is saying. I'm gonna send him a copy!"
During the chat, the "CBS Mornings" co-host also shared, "It has sunk in, but it's still mind-blowing to me, honestly. I used to look at it all the time, myself... never in a gazillion years did I think I would be that person."
On May 14, the official Instagram account of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue shared its magazine cover featuring Gayle. In the snap, she could be seen confidently striking a pose in a colorful bodysuit. She looked much younger than her actual age, prompting many social media users to gush over her youthful appearance.
Gayle and William tied the knot in 1982 before ending their marriage in 1993 allegedly due to him being unfaithful. The former couple shares two children, 38-year-old Kirby Bumpus and 37-year-old William Bumpus Jr., together.
