The 'Dune: Part Two' actor is reportedly wanted to lead Disney's next installment of the swashbuckling adventure film franchise after considering him for a 'Hercules' reboot.

AceShowbiz - Austin Butler could be sailing on his own ship in his next movie. After receiving critical acclaims for his portrayal of Elvis Presley, the actor has reportedly caught the eyes of Disney, which wants him for the next "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie.

According to a report by The DisInsider, Disney has been wanting to work with the 32-year-old heartthrob on a high-profile project and at one point considered him for a live-action "Hercules" reboot. While the studio did not seem to move forward with the the "Hercules" movie, it now reportedly wants the actor for the new "Pirates of the Caribbean" film.

"I have heard for the last couple years that Disney has wanted to work with Butler for quite some time and while Hercules was on the table, I heard that Disney wants him from 'Pirates of the Caribbean'," the report stated, before noting, "Whether or not that happens is a completely different story."

The "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise has been left stranded with the captain position in the void following Johnny Depp's legal drama. While Jerry Bruckheimer previously expressed interest to have the actor return for another "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie, he was never involved in any talks about future projects mainly due to his legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard.

At one point, Disney was developing a female-led spin-off of the fantasy swashbuckler film franchise with Margot Robbie being in talks to lead. However, the project apparently fell through.

In an interview for her 2022 Vanity Fair cover story, the actress shared of the scrapped project, "We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led - not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story - which we thought would've been really cool. But I guess they don't want to do it."
