AceShowbiz - Taylor Swift has not officially released hew new album "The Tortured Poets Department" just yet, but it has already stirred a controversy. The singer/songwriter has been dragged online by Selena Gomez's fans over lyrics about Charlie Puth on the title track.
A few days before the release of Taylor's new album, songs from the set reportedly leaked online. While some people have questioned the validity of the leaks, Selenators cannot help being baffled by the lyrics that allegedly read, "We declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist."
Selena and Charlie have had history of a messy relationship. After the duo collaborated on 2016's song "We Don't Talk Anymore", they were rumored to be romantically involved. However, Charlie later confirmed that it was "very short-lived" and "it really messed [him] up."
When Charlie released his 2017 song "Attention" about a girl who rebuffs a man's romantic advances and only cares about the spotlight, people began to speculate if the song is about Selena, which he later confirmed. "Attention is about what you think it's about," he wrote in a since-deleted tweet.
For that reason, Selena's fans are questioning Taylor's motive behind the supposed lyrics of the title track, considering the "Anti-Hero" hitmaker's friendship with the "Only Murders in the Building" star. "Aren't taylor and selena besties? Why is taylor glazing charlie puth then...?" one person asked. "Taylor mentions Charlie Puth? She's such a fake friend. Tf is wrong with her and doesn't she know how he was with Selena. This b***h is the worse," another claimed.
A third person pointed out, "Isn't taylor good friends with selena? Didn't charlie talk smack about sel for not having sex with him????" Another slammed the Grammy winner as they mentioned Taylor's previous interview about her bestie Selena, " 'In my life, I have the ability to forgive people who have hurt me. But I don't know if I can forgive someone who hurts her.' Right Taylor..."
Neither Taylor nor Selena has responded to the online debate. Taylor's new album "The Tortured Poets Department" will be released on Friday, April 19.
