AceShowbiz - Taylor Swift has heaped praise on Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt's rendition of her hit song "All Too Well". The two actors performed during the opening monologue of "Saturday Night Live" on April 13.
Gosling, who hosted the show, addressed his role as Ken in the upcoming film "Barbie". After initially stating that he wouldn't discuss the character, he changed his mind, saying, "When you play a character that hard, that long, letting go feels like a breakup."
To express his emotions, Gosling performed a cover of "All Too Well", reminiscing about his experiences playing Ken in the Greta Gerwig-directed film. Blunt, his co-star in the movie "The Fall Guy", joined him on stage to represent her character from the film "Oppenheimer".
Swift took to Instagram to share her appreciation for the performance, writing, "All Too Well (Ryan and Emily's Version)!!!" She added, "Watch me accidentally catch myself singing this version on tour. This monologue is everything."
"All Too Well," a song Swift co-wrote with Liz Rose for her 2012 album "Red", has become one of her most iconic tracks. In 2021, she released a re-recorded version on "Red (Taylor's Version)," along with a "10 Minute Version" that was accompanied by a short film starring Sadie Sink and Dylan O'Brien.
Gosling and Blunt's version on "SNL" incorporated lyrics that reflected their characters' experiences in "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer". For example, Gosling sang, "But I just can't seem to let Ken go 'cause there we are again back in 2023 it was the 'Barbenheimer' summer, it was just you and me, drunk on beer, no body hair. Now it's time to wish Ken farewell."
Swift's approval is a testament to the quality of Gosling and Blunt's performance, which brought a fresh perspective to her beloved song.
