AceShowbiz - Following the record-breaking success of "Barbie," actress Margot Robbie and her production company, LuckyChap, are set to produce a live-action feature film based on the iconic board game Monopoly.

Lionsgate acquired the development rights to Monopoly in 2023 after purchasing eOne, Hasbro's entertainment studio. The board game, which has been a global phenomenon since its inception in 1935, has seen endless iterations and remains the world's most popular game.

Despite the game's simple premise of acquiring property and bankrupting opponents, LuckyChap expressed enthusiasm for translating this popular game into a captivating narrative. Lionsgate's Adam Fogelson hinted that the team has a "clear point of view" for the project, although further details remain under wraps.

"They are exceptional producers who choose their projects with great thought and care, and join Monopoly with a clear point of view," said Fogelson. "We are tremendously excited to be working with the entire LuckyChap team on what we all believe can be their next blockbuster."

LuckyChap expressed their enthusiasm for the project, stating, "Like all of the best IP, this game has resonated worldwide for generations, and we are so excited to bring this game to life alongside the wonderful teams involved at Lionsgate and Hasbro."

In addition to the Monopoly movie, Margot Robbie and LuckyChap are also developing a film adaptation of the video game The Sims. The project, which will be directed by Kate Herron ("Loki"), is still in its early stages.

Robbie's involvement in "Monopoly" comes as Mattel is expanding its iconic toys into a cinematic universe. Besides Barbie, Polly Pocket and American Girl all have films in the works.
