The former 'Beverly Hills, 90210' actress speaks on her divorce filing on an episode of her podcast and breaks the news to her estranged husband via phone call.

AceShowbiz - On her debut "Misspelling" podcast episode, Tori Spelling revealed that she had filed for divorce from husband Dean McDermott after 18 years of marriage. During the episode, Spelling called McDermott and left him a voicemail, saying, "I just filed for divorce." She then called him back and had a conversation about the filing.

Spelling explained that she had been struggling with negative thoughts and feelings of not being worthy of love for a long time. "I've never felt more alone," she lamented. "I don't feel worth loving."

She had wished she had ended the marriage sooner, but stayed for the sake of her and McDermott's children. "We always say, 'Hey, it made it 18 years.' It shouldn't have made it 18 years,' " she said.

She also discussed her reasons for filing first, stating that McDermott had inflicted "a lot of pain" on her marriage and that she felt she deserved to file. She told him on the phone, "You basically put it out there with Daily Mail and said everything you've done to me over the years, so I think it makes perfect sense that it followed up that I would file."

Despite the divorce filing, Spelling expressed love for her estranged husband, saying, "I love you." She also discussed the potential impact on their children, acknowledging their concerns about being labeled or teased at school.

Spelling said that she had recognized red flags in McDermott's behavior early on, including anger issues and alcohol abuse. She admitted to creating a "character" of Dean, with certain qualities she desired, but that their relationship changed significantly after they had children.

She revealed that she had attempted couple's therapy with McDermott, but that it was ultimately unsuccessful due to communication issues.

The couple's date of separation was listed as June 17, 2023, the same day McDermott initially announced their split on Instagram. Spelling expressed that she had been hesitant to file for divorce until her children were older, but ultimately decided it was time to move on.

McDermott has since moved on with girlfriend Lily Calo.
