AceShowbiz - Sydney Sweeney is not working with Johnny Depp for a new movie. The "Euphoria" star denied rumors suggesting that she's starring in the upcoming supernatural thriller "Day Drinker" opposite the "Pirates of the Caribbean" actor.
The 26-year-old set the record straight via X, formerly Twitter on Saturday, March 30. "Woke up to rumors anyways go see @ImmaculateMovie in theaters this weekend," she penned, promoting her latest horror film instead.
The clarification arrived after film critic Jeff Sneider wrote in his newsletter "The InSneider" that Sydney and Johnny would appear in Marc Webb's film "Day Drinker". The article is still on Jeff's website as an "exclusive" and the post is still pinned to the top of his Twitter account.
Jeff was also unfazed by the "Anything but You" actress' post. Quote-retweeting her statement, he wrote, "A non-denial."
Based on a story by Zach Dean, writer of "Fast X" and Chris Pratt's "The Tomorrow War", "Day Drinker" is set in Spain, Portugal as well as France. The new flick narrates a grieving bartender who meets an "enigmatic stranger," and explores themes of "love, friendship, and revenge."
The news arrived a few weeks after Sydney faced backlash for attending a special screening of her new horror film "Immaculate" at a church. She was present at the March 17 event alongside film director Michael Mohan, who introduced the movie before the screening began.
The two also thanked the audience for being there with them. "I just want to thank you guys so much, because none of these would be possible without all your love and your support," she said.
Upon catching wind of videos and photos from the screening, some Internet users put Sweeney and the movie production team on blast. "Disgusting to use a church as a prop for a horror movie," one criticized. Another penned, "No hate to the actors, but this is a kind of blasphemy."
