The former CNN anchor opens up on his mental health struggle after he was sacked from the news network, claiming he has to rely on pills to keep depression at bay.

AceShowbiz - Former CNN news anchor Don Lemon has revealed that he had to resort to antidepressants after being fired from the network in April last year. During an appearance on "The Tamron Hall Show," Lemon admitted, "I've been suffering from depression."

"I take an antidepressant now. I'm very transparent about that," Lemon told host Tamron Hall. "He helped me get through the summer after losing [my] job [and] getting fired."

In addition to medication, Lemon practices various forms of therapy to improve her mental health and overall well-being. He stated that his doctor performed guided therapy with him using alternative medications to SSRI antidepressants.

"I don't know if they were used at any point, but he said, 'You should try other things besides SSRIs,' " Lemon revealed. "I also don't know if you've done this, it has helped people with PTSD when you use these drugs, but it has to be under the care of a doctor."

According to Healthline, psychedelic therapy involves ingesting psychedelic substances as part of a psychotherapeutic process, typically combined with talk therapy. Some of these substances include psilocin (magic mushrooms), DMT, peyote, ayahuasca, and ibogaine.

Lemon's dismissal from CNN came after 17 years at the network. He joined the network in 2006 and hosted "Don Lemon Tonight" for more than eight years.

In his statement following his firing, Lemon expressed surprise, stating that he had not received any indication that he could not continue his work at the network. CNN refuted this statement, stating that Lemon was offered a meeting with management but chose to release a statement on Twitter.

Currently, Lemon is looking for new opportunities. He signed a deal with social media platform X (formerly Twitter), owned by Elon Musk, but the partnership was recently canceled. However, sources close to the presenter say he is hopeful about the future.
