AceShowbiz - Gigi Hadid has regretted her recent posts about the hostage exchange deal that was reached between Hamas and Israel. The model admitted that she didn't "fact check" when condemning Israel in her statement. Still, her support for Palestine remains strong amid the ongoing conflict between the two countries.
In a lengthy statement shared on Tuesday, November 28, the catwalk beauty wrote, "As someone of Palestinian descent, the endless heartbreaking news and imagery coming out of Gaza has been painful and often overwhelming." She added, "It is important to me to share the real stories about the hardships that Palestinians have endured and continue to endure, but this weekend I shared something that I did not fact check or deeply think about prior to posting."
"I wanted to show the ways in which international law is being undermined by the Israeli government. In this case, I was trying to highlight how Palestinian children who are arrested by the IDF are often not given the same rights as an Israeli child accused of the same crime would," the 28-year-old continued. "Unfortunately, I used the wrong example to make that point and I regret that."
"My focus was intended to be on human rights issues. That is why I also want to reiterate that attacking any human, which of course includes Jewish people, is NEVER OK. Taking innocent people hostage is NEVER OK. Harming someone BECAUSE they are Jewish is NEVER OK. It is wrong," she went on stressing. "To want freedom and humane treatment for Palestinians and to also want safety for Jewish people can both be important to the same person - including myself."
Gigi, whose dad Mohamed Hadid is a Palestinian, previously talked about young Palestinian Ahmed Manasra, who was diagnosed with schizophrenia and depression. Ahmed was arrested in 2015 for stabbing and injuring two Israeli citizens in Pisgat Zeev.
"Israel is the only country in the world that keeps CHILDREN AS PRISONERS OF WAR. ABDUCTION. RAPE. HUMILIATION. TORTURE. MURDER OF PALESTINIANS," the older sister of Bella Hadid wrote in a now-deleted post. "YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS. BEFORE Oct 7 2023."
Gigi also reshared a post claiming that "Israel authorities detain an average of 500 - 700 Palestinian children every year." The post added that the children were "beaten," "strip searched," "arrested at night" and "isolated in solitary confinement."
In the next slide, Gigi pointed out that "Israel is the ONLY country in the world that systematically prosecutes minors in military courts and accepts confessions obtained by coercion." She also fumed, "Israel sees any Palestinian as a 'terrorist,' any person supporting Palestinian rights as 'antisemite,' and any Jew that is opposed to the government's actions as 'self-hating' - even telling them to denounce their Judaism. So… everyone is lying and wrong, except Israel?! If it isn't evil and disturbing, it would be comedic."
