Anne Twist, 56, who has turned into an Internet personality in the wake of her 29-year-old boy's global fame, said she was left baffled by the hate after Harry sent fans into meltdown last week when he showed off a new buzz cut on a night out with his rumoured 29-year-old actress girlfriend Taylor Russell.

"When you consider that H has a legacy of kindness and inclusion, has always made every effort to make everyone feel seen and appreciated for exactly who they are. There's an irony in the negativity he's been shown for having a haircut. Sorry but I don't get it," his mum posted a photo of her son sporting his new style on Instagram, and captioned it.

Sources have said Harry's new haircut was the result of him wanting to dodge the spotlight. One insider told DailyMail.com, "Harry was looking for some anonymity. If shaving his head gets some people to not notice him for a few weeks or months, that's about the best-case scenario."

"That was his initial reason for doing it, but now that he has been found out, it is business as usual. It was good while it lasted, and it can grow back very quickly, so he isn't bothered by the new look. He just wishes it lasted longer and people didn't know."

Harry stunned fans when he was spotted with a shaved head while watching U2 at the Sphere in Las Vegas with Taylor. The image was shared by gossip site DeuxMoi, sparking a wave of comments about Harry's new style on social media.

Harry and Taylor were first rumoured to be dating in June and are said to be having a "good time" together.

His new look was confirmed when he posed for a snap in an image posted on Instagram to promote his new fragrances line. It was captioned, "Our Founder, Harry Styles, toasts the launch of Pleasing Fragrance with friends in London. November, 2023."
