While saying that bye weeks are 'obviously not a time to go party and celebrate,' the retired NFL player says there's nothing wrong' with the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback visiting his girlfriend in the South American country.

AceShowbiz - Eli Manning has weighed in on Travis Kelce's bye week plans. After it was revealed that the Kansas City Chiefs player would visit his girlfriend Taylor Swift in Argentina during his short time off from football, the retired NFL player has defended the tight end.

Speaking to PEOPLE, Eli says that bye weeks are "obviously not a time to go party and celebrate," citing Las Vegas, for example. As to Travis' visit to the South American country to meet his girlfriend, the 42-year-old says, "I think for him to travel, there's nothing wrong with traveling, going somewhere. Hey, if he wants to go and support his girlfriend and see her play a concert, I've got no problem with that."

"I think the Bye Week is a great time to get away from football and I think that's the idea," the former New York Giants player explains. "It is the time to rest the body, rest the mind a little bit, recharge yourself to get ready for that second half of the season," he adds, noting that "it's a long season."

Eli says that teams in the NFL usually get "about four or five days off." He elaborates that the teams usually "come back on Sunday or Monday before the upcoming game to get some practices in and get back into things."

Of how he used to spend his bye week during his time in the NFL, Eli shares, "I might go back to my college, watch a game if they had a big game or go see my parents." However, the former QB adds that he thinks "a quarterback's mindset might be different than some of the other guys."

Travis' travel plans were first reported by Page Six earlier this week. A source told the site that the 34-year-old would fly to Argentina to see the Grammy Award-winning artist this week, but will make sure to return in time for his NFL duties. "He has to be back on Sunday for practice on Monday," the so-called insider spilled.

Taylor kicked off her three-day concerts in Buenos Aires on Thursday, November 9. However, on the first night of her Argentine stop, her boyfriend Travis was nowhere to be seen at Estadio River Plate where the show took place. The "Anti-Hero" singer still has two shows to perform in Buenos Aires on Friday, November 10 and Saturday, November 11, so the NFL star still has the chance to support his girlfriend.
