AceShowbiz - Dua Lipa has finally confirmed that she has a new single on the way. One day after teasing new music, the "Levitating" hitmaker revealed the title of the song, "Houdini", as well as its release date.
On Wednesday, November 1, the 28-year-old shared on Instagram a sultry cover art of the upcoming track. The picture showed the British beauty licking her own reflection in a mirror. In the caption, she shared the upcoming release date and gave a nod to the song's namesake, magician Harry Houdini, by including an emoji of handcuffs in reference to one of his most famous stunts.
Just one day prior, Dua posted a video of her biting a golden key necklace. A snippet of the song is played in the background, in which she sings, "Tell me all the ways you'll need me."
The video concludes with the cryptic message "4 8 9 9 14 15 21". If translated to their equivalent letters, these numbers can be re-arranged to form the name Houdini.
Dua has been teasing the follow-up to 2020's "Future Nostalgia" for years. In March 2022, she told Elton John that the album was "50 per cent done," but she retracted her statement in December.
"When I was speaking to Elton, I really felt like I was halfway done. But it's taken a complete turn as I've carried on working, and I really feel now that it's starting to sound cohesive," she explained to Variety. "So I'm going to keep writing in the early months of the new year and see where that takes me."
Dua admitted the record is "different sonically" from what's come before and teased that the title would make "everything" clearer to her fans. She added, "The album is different - it's still pop but it's different sonically, and there's more of a lyrical theme. If I told you the title, everything would make sense - but I think we'll just have to wait."
In an interview with New York Times Magazine in August of this year, it was unveiled that Dua's new album will arrive in 2024. The profile noted, "She doesn't want to 'alienate' them [her fans], although she's developing a new sound that may be informed less by the house and disco beats beneath songs like 'Physical' and 'Hallucinate' than by 1970s-era psychedelia."
