Oscars showrunner Glenn Weiss confirms they have extended offers to all five Best Song nominees to perform at the upcoming show, but 'after a bunch of back and forth' it's decided that GaGa will not be able to perform.

AceShowbiz - Lady GaGa will not be performing at the 2023 Academy Awards despite being nominated in the Best Song category. Oscars showrunner Glenn Weiss has confirmed that the Grammy Award-winning artist has turned down a chance to perform at the upcoming show for an understandable reason.

Weiss, who executive produces this year's Oscars along with Ricky Kirshner, said that they extended invites to all five nominees. However, GaGa is currently too busy filming her upcoming movie "Joker: Folie a Deux".

"We invited all five nominees," Weiss said during a creative team press conference on Wednesday afternoon, March 8. "We have great relationships with Lady GaGa and her camp [but] she's in the middle of shooting a movie right now, and here we are honoring the movie industry and what it takes to make a movie."

"After a bunch of back and forth, it didn't feel like she can get a performance to the caliber that we're used to with her, that she's used to and all that stuff," he went on explaining. "So she is not going to perform on the show, however, this is all, from our point of view, about someone making a movie and us completely understanding that that's what is priority in this business, especially when we are honoring movies."

Earlier this week, Kirshner left the possibility open of GaGa performing at the show. "We've announced some of the performances, and there are still more announcements to come," he said, before gushing over the confirmed performers. "So I will say that the ones we've announced, very creatively, have taken to make their song very performance based and very visual."

He continued, "Obviously, as you can imagine, 'Everything Everywhere All at Once'. Very visual. David Byrne [who co-wrote and performed that film's song 'This Is a Life'] had a lot to say about what it'll look like, so that'll be cool. So we're excited about all the performances that we have."

The Best Song nomination for "Hold My Hand" from "Top Gun: Maverick" marks' GaGa's fourth Oscar nomination. She has won one, in 2019, for Best Original Song for "Shallow" from "A Star Is Born". That year, she was also nominated for Best Actress, but lost it to Olivia Colman for her role in "The Favourite".

Besides GaGa, other four Best Song nominees this year, including Rihanna, are set to perform at the 2023 Oscars. Lenny Kravitz, meanwhile, is tapped to lead the In Memoriam tribute. Jimmy Kimmel is set to host the show, which will air live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 12.
