The 'nightmare' behind-the-scenes over set malfunction seemingly caused the three-time Brit award winner skipped the Universal Brit Awards afterparty at 180 The Strand.

AceShowbiz - Sam Smith apparently had a chaotic backstage argument at this year's Brit Awards. If a new report is to be believed, the "Unholy" hitmaker was left furious when his performance was nearly canceled due to set malfunction.

The 30-year-old singer was said to be arguing backstage after their £500,000 (around $600,000) set malfunctioned causing a delay to the live show. A source told The Sun that as a result, they finally performed their hit "Unholy" with Kim Petras, made a quick exit, avoiding any of the show's afterparties.

"[Their] performance might have appeared seamless but behind-the-scenes it was a nightmare," the source shared. "The whole set was built and ready to go but then a malfunction meant it had to be pulled off.

The source went on to reveal fellow performer Stormzy's set was moved up in order to try and fix the error with the possibility of Sam's performance being scrapped. "[They] were understandably furious and it was pretty tense backstage," the informant said.

It's believed the technical issues arose from the cars used on stage and bounced to the music during the incredible spectacle. Another source detailed, "What should have been a huge night for Sam ended up being pretty stressful and they made a quick exit from the ceremony and didn't bother going to celebrate at any of the label parties."

Three-time Brit award winner Sam, who wore a black latex bodysuit with bulbous arms and legs on arrival at the show, was expected to attend the Universal afterparty at 180 The Strand with Kim. However, they failed to appear on Saturday night after the event was over. Kim, who won the Best Pop Duo Grammy with Sam last week for "Unholy", went to the bash solo.
