AceShowbiz - James Cameron isn't always the happiest when surrounded by fans. The acclaimed filmmaker has sent a bold message to a horde of fans seeking autographs at a special screening of his new film "Avatar: The Way of Water".

The 68-year-old director wasn't in the mood to please fans waiting for him outside the WGA building in Beverly Hills on Saturday, December 17. In footage obtained by TMZ, he was seen storming through the crowd of autograph-seekers when leaving the building.

Cameron went straight to an awaiting car, leaving the fans enraged. They booed him and shouted, "F**k 'Avatar'!" While the award-winning filmmaker managed to keep a straight face when walking out of the building, he let his feelings be known once he's inside the car, flipping them off out the window, which was slightly rolled down.

Cameron is back promoting the "Avatar" sequel after he was forced to miss "The Way of Water" Hollywood premiere due to COVID-19. On Monday, December 12, it was announced that he would not attend the special screening in Los Angeles later that evening after testing positive for the virus.

A Disney spokesperson said at the time that the "Titanic" helmer was "fine" despite catching the virus. He was still set to continue to engage in publicity for the film, albeit virtually. "Jim has COVID but is feeling fine. He tested positive as part of a routine testing cadence," the rep said in a statement. "He will continue to complete his schedule virtually but will not be at the premiere."

Speaking to Deadline, Cameron shared he believes he caught the virus on the plane while on the way back to L.A. from Tokyo, Japan, where he and the cast previously attended another premiere for the movie. "I am in LA, just back from Tokyo, and I managed to pick up Covid on the plane, so I'm isolated and can't go to my own premiere tonight," he told the outlet.

Pointing out the irony of the promise he made while making the sequel, he added, "The number of people I've told over the years, 'ah, we'll catch up and I'll see you at the premiere...' well, I guess not. Man proposes, and God disposes."

"Avatar: The Way of Water" is now playing in theaters across the nation.
