The hip-hop star, who awarded the university $20,000, rains down pearls of wisdom during her commencement speech by telling fellow graduates, 'I am proud of y'all and y'all should be proud of y'all self.'

AceShowbiz - Missy Elliott couldn't be happier after receiving her second honorary doctorate from Norfolk State University. To celebrate her latest accomplishment the "Get Ur Freak On" raptress expressed her joy on social media, saying that she's so "grateful" for it.

Making use of Instagram, the 51-year-old shared photos of herself from the Saturday, December 10 ceremony. "Two time Doctorate 'Dr. Elliott' I am so Humbly Grateful," she captioned the post. "Thank you @norfolkstateuniversity for having me today & showing so much love. To the Class Of 2022' May your Journey be Successful/ Fearless/ Determined to be the BEST! Behold The Green & Gold!!!! #HBCU #757 #VA."

Hours later, she unleashed other snaps, with one of them showing the femcee giving a commencement speech. "Slide Left. Behold #HBCU @norfolkstateuniversity The Class of 2022 just know that YOU are Leaders/Creators/Visionaries! Let’s Gooooo! Y’all got this! Sincerely from 'Dr Elliott' Thank you to the president Dr. J. Adams-Gaston of NSU & @team_henry."

During her speech, Elliott told fellow graduates, "I am proud of y'all and y'all should be proud of y'all self." She added, "Now I want y'all to look at each other and say 'you already won,' ... Let 'em know. There ain't no winning. You already won. Y'all could have been doing anything else these last few years. Y'all could have been wild and out, but y'all decided to finish the course, and that's major."

The hip-hop star, who awarded the university $20,000, continued raining down pearls of wisdom by revealing that she used to play music in the car on the Norfolk State campus "and I didn't go here." Now that she feels blessed to receive the honorary degree, the Virginia native declared, "quitting is not an option."
