The 'Silver Linings Playbook' star clarifies her controversial remark that there's no female action movie lead before she played Katniss Everdeen in 'The Hunger Games'.

AceShowbiz - Jennifer Lawrence has broken her silence after she landed in hot water over her comment about her being the first female action hero in cinema. The Oscar-winning actress admits it was a "blunder" of hers for saying that, claiming that it wasn't what she "meant to say."

Clarifying her controversial remark, the 32-year-old told The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday, December 8, "That's certainly not what I meant to say at all. I know that I am not the only woman who has ever led an action film. What I meant to emphasize was how good it feels."

"And I meant that with Viola - to blow past these old myths that you hear about ... about the chatter that you would hear around that kind of thing," she explained, before adding, "But it was my blunder and it came out wrong. I had nerves talking to a living legend."

Noting that this isn't the first time her quote was misconstrued or taken out of context by the media, Lawrence shared, "One time I was quoted saying that Donald Trump was responsible for hurricanes. I felt that one was ridiculous, that it was so stupid I didn't need to comment. But this one, I was like, 'I think I want to clarify.' "

Lawrence made the comment in question when speaking with Viola Davis for Variety's Actors on Actors series. She said, "I remember when I was doing ['The Hunger Games'], nobody had ever put a woman in the lead of an action movie because it wouldn't work - because we were told girls and boys can both identify with a male lead, but boys cannot identify with a female lead."

She added, "And it just makes me so happy every single time I see a movie come out that just blows through every one of those beliefs, and proves that it is just a lie to keep certain people out of the movies. To keep certain people in the same positions that they've always been in."

Many disagreed with Lawrence's comment as Franklin Leonard, founder of The Black List, said on Twitter, "It is untrue that no one had ever put a woman in an action movie before Jennifer Lawrence in 'Hunger Games'. It is absolutely true that Hollywood had and has a real bias against women driven action movies because of this ridiculous belief about who identifies with whom."

Others, meanwhile, mentioned other female action heroes before Lawrence, such as Sigourney Weaver in the "Aliens" movies, Linda Hamilton in the "Terminator" franchise, Uma Thurman in the "Kill Bill" film series and Angelina Jolie in "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider".
