AceShowbiz - Roddy Ricch is another artist who has been sued for copyright infringement. The Compton emcee has been slapped with a new lawsuit over his 2019 single, "The Box".

Filing the suit was California songwriter Greg Perry on Tuesday, December 6 in federal court in Manhattan. Greg alleged that "The Box" is "a complete duplication" of his 1975 song, "Come on Down". Aside from the rapper, his label Atlantic Records and producer 30 have been listed as defendants.

The legal docs obtained by Rolling Stone stated, "expert musicology analysis confirms that the ascending minor scale played by violin at the opening of 'Come on Down' is a distinctive musical element which recurs a total of six times throughout the song."

It added, "Comparative analysis of the beat, lyrics, hook, rhythmic structure, metrical placement, and narrative context by a musicology expert demonstrates clearly and convincingly that 'The Box' is an unauthorised duplication and infringement of certain elements of 'Come on Down'."

Perry claimed his song is famous in the music industry. In the complaint, he said Island Def Jam licensed "Come on Down" in 2008 for use in Jeezy (Young Jeezy)'s "Wordplay" and gave him a 60 percent interest in the song's copyright. Meanwhile, in 2016, Epic Records licensed a sample of the track for use in Yo Gotti's song, "I Remember".

"The use of the distinctive compositional elements of 'Come On Down' have remained so popular in both the R&B and rap community that access to the composition is firmly established," the docs read.

Both Roddy and Atlantic Records have yet to respond to the lawsuit. However, the filing took place exactly three years after "The Box", which received three Grammy nominations, was released.
