The 'Smash' alum takes to Instagram to acknowledge the family tragedy three days after her pregnant sister Lauren, brother-in-law Ross Mickel and the couple's child Remy were killed in the accident.

AceShowbiz - Megan Hilty has finally broken her silence on the plane crash that killed her pregnant sister Lauren, brother-in-law Ross Mickel and the couple's young child Remy. Taking to her Instagram account on Wednesday, September 7, the actress made use of the opportunity to clarify some false reports on her sister's death.

"On Sunday afternoon, a small float plane crashed into Puget Sound off the coast of Whidbey Island," Megan began her post, which featured a picture of the late couple and their son Remy. "My beloved sister Lauren, brother-in-law Ross and baby nephew Remy were on that plane."

Megan confirmed her sister was pregnant with a baby boy, who had been named Luca, and only one month away from giving birth during the crash. "To make this news even more devastating, my sister was eight months pregnant and we were expecting to welcome baby boy Luca into the world next month," she shared.

It wasn't easy for the "Smash" alum to come to terms with the loss and to speak publicly on it. "The last three days have been the worst of our lives. There are truly no words to appropriately convey the depth of our grief," she lamented. "The last thing I wanted to do was acknowledge this painful family tragedy publicly, but it's come to my attention that several news outlets have misgendered my sweet nephew and some haven't even mentioned baby Luca."

Lauren and Ross had another child who wasn't on board the plane, Megan revealed. She continued, "Lauren and Ross left behind my niece who we are all holding in our hearts. Thankfully, she was not on the plane and we ask that her name and personal information be kept private as she is a minor. It is important these details be corrected to respectfully honor everyone we've lost and the loved ones they've left behind."

The Broadway star ended her message with gratitude to those who have shown their support to her and her family in this difficult time. "The outpouring of love and support has meant so much to everyone in our family. It has been so comforting to know just how loved Lauren, Ross, Remy and Luca truly are," she concluded.

The U.S. Coast Guard confirmed on Tuesday that Megan's family members were among ten people on board the floatplane that crashed into Puget Sound near Whidbey Island on Sunday, September 4. Ross' family told a local news outlet in the wake of the accident, "We are deeply saddened and beyond devastated at the loss of our beloved Ross Mickel, Lauren Hilty, Remy and their unborn baby boy, Luca. Our collective grief is unimaginable."

The pilot was Jason Winters, while the other passengers were identified as Patricia Hicks, Sandra Williams, Luke Ludwig, Rebecca Ludwig, Joanne Mera and Gabrielle Hanna. It's currently unclear what caused the accident. A spokesperson for the NTSB said an investigation into the crash could take anywhere from 18 to 24 months.
