AceShowbiz - Sofia Carson is riding high on the success of her new movie, "Purple Hearts". The actress, who portrays Cassie in the Netflix film, successfully brought her name to some music charts thanks to its soundtracks.

Also serving as lead songwriter, Sofia landed at No. 4 on the Billboard Emerging Artists Chart. As for the achievements for the track, "Come Back Home" reached No. 26, "I Didn't Know" reached No.40, and "I Hate the Way" trailed behind at No. 47 on the Digital Song Sales chart. The three songs also stole the Top 3 spots on the Soundtrack Songs chart.

The full soundtrack album, on the other hand, stayed at No. 52 on the all-genre Billboard Top Album Sales chart. The film itself is currently on the summit of Netflix's Global Top 10 after it has been viewed for 102,590,000 hours.

"Purple Hearts" follows liberal singer-songwriter Cassie, who marries a conservative Marine, Luke (played by Nicholas Galitzine), so she can get health insurance and pay for insulin which she needs to treat her Type 1 Diabetes. Despite its success, the film is not immune to backlash. Many slammed the film for its misogynistic and racist remarks.

Responding to the criticism, Sofia said in an interview with Variety, "Why I fell in love with the movie is that it's a love story but it's so much more than that." The former Disney star continued, "It's two hearts, one red, one blue, two worlds apart, who are really raised to hate each other."

"Through the power of love, they learn to lead with empathy and compassion and love each other and turn into this beautiful shade of purple," the actress elaborated further. "We wanted to represent both sides as accurately as possible."
