The three actors star as unlikely friends who seek to clear their names of murder in the star-studded historical mystery comedy film by Oscar-nominated director David O. Russell.

AceShowbiz - David O. Russell is back with a new potential masterpiece. 20th Century Studios has released the first trailer for "Amsterdam" from the critically-acclaimed filmmaker and starring a bunch of A-listers.

At the center of the story are three friends, a doctor, a nurse and an attorney who are portrayed by Christian Bale, Margot Robbie and John David Washington. The trio formed "a pact" after meeting during a war. "We formed a pact, and we swore to protect each other. No matter what," Bale's Burt, who is characterized by his fake eye, narrates in the trailer.

Set in the 1930s, the movie follows the three friends as they become the prime suspects in a murder. "We find ourselves in a situation where we’re accused of killing someone which is not true," Burt explains their situation.

Seeking to clear their names, they meet various strange characters and find themselves in the middle of a great American conspiracy. "My friend was killed because of something monstrous that he had seen," Robert De Niro's character informs them.

Per the film's logline, "Amsterdam" is "a fascinating and richly intricate tale that brilliantly weaves historical fact with fiction for a timely, cinematic experience... about three close friends who find themselves at the center of one of the most shocking secret plots in American history."

The trailer also offers a glimpse of the star-studded cast, which includes Chris Rock, Anya Taylor-Joy, Zoe Saldana, Mike Myers, Michael Shannon, Timothy Olyphant, Taylor Swift, Andrea Riseborough, Matthias Schoenaerts, Alessandro Nivola and Rami Malek. The script is written by Russell.

The upcoming movie marks Russell's first film since he directed 2015's biographical comedy-drama "Joy" starring Jennifer Lawrence. "Amsterdam" is scheduled to be released in U.S. theaters on November 4.
