AceShowbiz - A "Minions" inspired TikTok trend forced a cinema to refund customers more than £1,300 (around $1,556). Labeled "Gentleminions", the craze sees groups of teens sport their smartest suits to see "Minions: The Rise of Gru" and post their best impressions of the titular character, who is voiced by the comedy legend Steve Carell. It, however, can be quite raucous and disturb the viewing pleasure of other patrons as the teens love to cheer along with the little yellow cuties.
A manager from a Worcester branch of Vue, a movie theater, told The Daily Telegraph newspaper, "The trend cost me £1,300 yesterday. I had to refund all of the tickets in that theatre because of kids shouting and mimicking the Minions while the film was playing."
"It was a group of about eight kids. Now, when we see any kids coming in to see the film dressed up we give them a warning," the manager further explained. "We tell them that if there is one complaint, whatever that may be, they will be kicked out of the cinema."
Another cinema experienced the same issue. The manager said, "The issue with the trend is children running around and treating the film as an opera, shouting and clapping. We had one small disturbance but we asked the kids to be quiet and they were so, fortunately, it's not been an issue for us."
That aside, Steve Carell shared in a recent interview that he'd love to see [ Ferrell] or comedian [ Colbert] feature in a 'Minions' movie one day. "I'd love Stephen Colbert to be in one, I would love Will Ferrell to be in one, I mean, boy, any one of my friends I'd love to do one," he said.
"They're so much fun because they're very collaborative, you can play around, you can kind of try anything, there's no wrong way to do it, and I think you can tell when you watch them, they're very freewheeling," he added. "All of the voice actors are giving a lot of themselves and not just reading the script, but embodying the character with much more than just the words."
