The RnB star finds himself being mocked online for trying to sing the late singer's 1984 hit, with one critic writing, 'Whoever was in that boardroom deciding Trey Songz should do a tribute to Prince should be stoned.'

AceShowbiz - Trey Songz found recently earned backlash over a resurfaced clip of his old performance. The R&B singer was dragged by a number of Twitter users after they saw a video of him performing "Purple Rain" in front of Prince.

The said clip was first shared on TikTok before it made its way to Twitter. Unfortunately, instead of getting praise, Trey received criticism from many Twitter users with one writing, "Whoever was in that boardroom deciding Trey Songz should do a tribute to Prince should be stoned."

"Prince was over it. Trey Songz sounded horrible and should not have been on that stage," another argued. "This is how a lot of artists today would sound if they were hyped to sing a song that they didn’t have the range for in a tribute."

A third commented, "Trey Songz yodeling ruin the song," while someone else opined, "Prince was deff thinking about erasing Trey Songz from this earth lol." A different user, meanwhile, fumed, "Whoever chose Trey Songz out of all people to honor Prince needs to get jumped."

Others, however, came to the 37-year-old crooner's defense. "trey can actually sing live dude has two live albums but purple rain is only something prince can sing," one individual noted." Another echoed, "he can actually sing live purple rain is just a hard a** song to sing, y'all playing my guy."
