The Grammy-winning artist reveals on her Instagram page that she wrote the song, which is about a 'story of a girl who always lived on the outside, looking in,' about 'a year and half ago.'

AceShowbiz - The wait is finally over! Three months after Taylor Swift teased fans of "Carolina" in the "Where the Crawdads Sing" trailer, the Grammy-winning artist finally released the song on Friday, June 24.

In the chorus, the 32-year-old sings, "Into the mist, into the clouds/ Don't leave/ I'll make a fist, I'll make it count." She continues, "And there are places I will never, ever go/ And things that only Carolina will ever know."

Taylor announced the release of the track via Instagram. Alongside a lyric video of the tune, she wrote, "About a year and half ago I wrote a song about an incredible story, the story of a girl who always lived on the outside, looking in. Figuratively and literally."

"The juxtaposition of her loneliness and independence. Her longing and her stillness," the pop star went on sharing. "Her curiosity and fear, all tangled up. Her persisting gentleness… and the world's betrayal of it.

"I wrote this one alone in the middle of the night and then @aarondessner and I meticulously worked on a sound that we felt would be authentic to the moment in time when this story takes place," she added. "I made a wish that one day you would hear it. 'Carolina' is out now."

Taylor first teased "Carolina" when promoting the movie back in March. Posting its trailer on Instagram, she explained, "Where The Crawdads Sing is a book I got absolutely lost in when I read it years ago. As soon as I heard there was a film in the works starring the incredible [Daisy Edgar-Jones] and produced by the brilliant [Reese Witherspoon], I knew I wanted to be a part of it from the musical side."

"I wrote the song 'Carolina' alone and asked my friend @aarondessner to produce it. I wanted to create something haunting and ethereal to match this mesmerizing story," the girlfriend of Joe Alwyn further elaborated. "You'll hear it fully soon, but for now check out the @crawdadsmovie trailer for a clip!"

The movie narrates a young girl named Kya who grows up alone in the North Carolina marshlands and is later accused of murdering a man she was romantically involved with. The film will hit theaters on July 15.
