The former 'Saturday Night Live' writer is slammed for bringing the Mark Twain Prize honoree to his stand-up show as the latter ends up offending the audience with his homophobic and transphobic jokes.

AceShowbiz - John Mulaney's attempt to surprise his fans with a special guest at his show wasn't well received. The comedian has landed in hot water after he brought in controversial comic Dave Chappelle to his stand-up show in Columbus, Ohio.

On Friday, May 29, John performed at Value City Arena at Ohio State as part of his "From Scratch" tour. While there is no footage to back up the story, audience shared on Twitter that Dave opened the set.

But they were not pleased with Dave's surprise appearance as the "Chi-Raq" star allegedly made transphobic and homophobic jokes, which were no surprise at this stage following his controversial Netflix special "The Closer" in which he also joked about the LGBTQ+ community.

Taking to Twitter to express their disappointment, audience members blasted both John and Dave. "Pretty disappointed in John Mulaney, saw him tonight and yeah, he was funny, but he gave Dave Chapelle the platform to make some transphobic jokes," one person blamed the former "Saturday Night Live" writer. "Also very disheartening to hear a crowd of 12,000 around you (a trans person) laughing at transphobic jokes. Thanks Columbus."

Another sarcastically wrote, "my favorite part of tonight was when dave chappelle ambushed us at the john mulaney show, told a bunch of transphobic jokes, a massive stadium of people laughed, and then john mulaney hugged him at the end." The fan, who identified as transgender later on in his series of tweets, added that he "can safely say i am not a fan of mulaney's anymore."

"The fact that John Mulaney, who has a prevalent amount of young KGBT fans, had Dave Chapelle ope for his show tonight is just deeply disappointing and upsetting," a third added. Being caught off guard by Dave's appearance, a fourth critic noted, "okay so tell me why I just went to the John Mulaney show and Dave Chappelle was a surprise opener and made not only a transphobic joke but a homophobic one."

Someone else similarly reacted, "y'all ever hear ~12,000 people laugh at a transphobic joke, while you're a trans person in the audience who didn't know the transphobic comedian would make a surprise appearance at the John Mulaney show? yeah. wasn't fun. f**k you D.C."

Dave previously landed in hot water following his transphobic jokes in "The Closer". While he has since returned to stage, he was attacked by a fan during his show at Hollywood Bowl in early of this month. The alleged assailant, Isaiah Lee, recently claimed that he was triggered by the funnyman's joke about his prior controversies with the LGBTQ community, as well as homelessness.
