AceShowbiz - The long wait for "Avatar 2" will soon come to an end. At CinemaCon on Wednesday, April 27, Disney, which inherited the franchise after acquiring 20th Century Fox in 2019, announced the official title of the sequel as well as the first teaser trailer.

The sequel is now called "Avatar: The Way of Water". During the presentation at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, attendees were given 3D glasses to watch the minutes-long footage, which contains almost no dialogue.

It, instead, took attendees to "different regions across the dazzling world of Pandora through sweeping visuals of the planet's crystal blue oceans and lakes," according to Variety. "The footage also shows the local tribe of Na'vi interacting with various species resembling whales and pelicans, some of which flew through the screen and into audience member's faces thanks to the three-dimensional technology."

The teaser also highlights Sully and Neytiri's family, which now includes their children. "I know one thing," Sam Worthington's Jake Sully tells Zoe Saldana's Neytiri. "Wherever we go, this family is our fortress."

Producer Jon Landau flew in town from New Zealand to speak at the presentation. "One of the strengths of Jim Cameron's scripts is they are always universal and relatable themes that he weaves into them," he gushed about Cameron's work.

"At the center of each of the four sequels will be the Sully family. Each story will be a stand-alone and each will come to its own conclusion," he further described the movie. There will be a "fulfilling resolution to each film, but when looked at as a whole the journey across all four will create a larger epic saga."

Cameron appeared via video message from Wellington, NZ, where he is currently shooting. "I know it's been rough on the exhibition community these last two years," he said of theaters amid the COVID-19 pandemic. "I just want you to hear it from me: Jon and I are here to work with you. The best way is by delivering content that is a must-see experience at the cinema."

The filmmaker also said he's "hard at work putting the final touches on the film." He went on assuring that the new films are "pushing limits even farther with high frame rate, higher resolution 3D and greater reality in our visual effects. I wanted our return to Pandora to be something really special. Every shot is designed for the biggest screen, highest resolution and most immersive 3D available. I think we pulled it off."

The first trailer for the movie will run exclusively in cinemas with "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness", which will open in theaters beginning May 4 internationally and May 6 domestically. It will become available online a week later.
