The 'Last Letter from Your Lover' actor gets coy when asked about engagement rumors that have been swirling regarding him and his longtime musician girlfriend.

AceShowbiz - Joe Alwyn has finally addressed rumors that have been swirling about his relationship with Taylor Swift, but don't expect to get a clarifying answer. The English actor got goy when asked about the speculation that he and the Grammy Award-winning artist have gotten engaged.

In a new interview for WSJ. Magazine's May issue, on newsstands April 30, the 31-year-old even poked fun at the constant engagement rumors. "If I had a pound for every time I think I've been told I've been engaged, then I'd have a lot of pound coins," he joked.

The "Mary Queen of Scots" star, however, remains tight-lipped when it comes to his relationship with the country-turned-pop superstar. "I mean, the truth is, if the answer was yes, I wouldn't say, and if the answer was no, I wouldn't say," he said.

Joe went on addressing his decision to be private about his personal life. "We live in a culture that people expect so much to be given," he said, before talking about staying away from social media, "So that if you're not posting all the time about what you're doing, how you're spending a day or how you made a breakfast, does that make you a recluse?"

The grandson of late English composer William Alwyn then admitted that while he'd "like to feel slightly less guarded sometimes in interviews or in whatever kind of interactions," his attitude is "just a knee-jerk response to the culture we live in." He added, "If you give it to them, it just opens the door."

Joe and Taylor, who have been dating since 2016, have been hit with engagement rumors multiple times. Most recently, the betrothal news began circulating again after the pair enjoyed a whirlwind break in Cornwall, England.

In January of this year, they jetted from her Nashville home to London for a three-day getaway. The fact that the singer/songwriter and the actor travelled 4,000 miles for just a three-day visit to the town shows it was "particularly special" for the couple.

"It feels like things are getting more serious and people think an engagement could be on the cards. That could explain such a long journey to a specific place," a source told The Sun of their trip.

Taylor and Joe reportedly rented a house for their romantic getaway rather than staying in a hotel for maximum privacy. After three nights, they returned to the U.S. with a 3,000-mile flight to Maine. A pal added at the time, "It sounds a gorgeous trip."
