AceShowbiz - Jada Pinkett Smith apparently was one of those who was upset by her husband Will Smith's drama with Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars, which took place on March 27. According to a new report, Jada regretted how things turned out that night.
A source spilled to Us Weekly that both the "Red Table Talk" co-host and the "King Richard" star agreed that the latter "overreacted" when he slapped the comedian over a joke about Jada. "It was in the heat of the moment and it was him overreacting. He knows that, she knows that. They're in agreement that he overreacted," the insider explained about where the couple stands now.
The source added that while the "A Different World" alum, she "wishes he didn't" get in an altercation to defend her. "She's not one of these women that needs protecting. He didn't need to do what he did, she didn't need protecting. She's not a wallflower," the informant noted. "She's a strong woman, an opinionated woman and she can fight her own battles. But she will stand by him."
Amid the scandal, the couple, who has been married since 1997, allegedly received support from their loved ones. "They protect their family. They're all about their family and their kids. They've done everything to build this life for themselves," the source continued. "They are very much protected in their own lives and do the absolute best they can to protect their loved ones."
Will shocked everyone when he got onstage and slapped Chris after he cracked a joke about Jada's shaved head. "Keep my wife's name out your f**king mouth," the actor, who received best actor award later night, yelled at the "Saturday Night Live" alum from his seat.
Following the incident, the "Suicide Squad" actor issued an apology to Chris in a statement on Instagram. "I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness," he wrote on Tuesday, March 28. In the wake of the drama, Will also decided to resign from The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).
