The designer, who had dressed the likes of Kim Kardashian, Beyonce, Lady GaGa and Cardi B, died on Sunday, January 23, his team confirms via his official Instagram page.

AceShowbiz - The fashion world is losing another icon. French fashion designer Thierry Mugler passed away on Sunday, January 23, his team has announced via his official Instagram page. He was 73 years old.

"#RIP We are devastated to announce the passing of Mr Manfred Thierry Mugler on Sunday January 23rd 2022," so read the announcement which was written in both English and French along with a black square. "May his soul Rest In Peace."

No cause of death is given as of press time. The news came as a huge shock since he didn't appear to be ill or battling any known ailments.

Tributes quickly poured in from celebrities around the world. Tracee Ellis Ross left several broken heart emojis underneath the announcement. Model and Mick Jagger's daughter Georgia May Jagger commented, "I cannot believe this is true sending love to you all. Thierry was a force of creativity and kindness."

Italian singer and model Carla Bruni simply wrote, "No !" Drag queen Miss Fame exclaimed, "Noooo." She posted a more elaborated tribute on her Instagram account, writing, "Rest in Power to the Master Mr Manfred Thierry Mugler @manfredthierrymugler .. You inspired us to dream of Glamour & you will be missed deeply. Thank you for your brilliance.. deepest condolences."

Danish actress and model Brigitte Nielsen also mourned Thierry's death as commenting, "Such an icon. Unbelievably sad." Jennifer Tilly added, "So sad. Mr Mugler was a genius," while nightlife legend Susanne Bartsch reacted, "OMG NOOOOO! I am devastated such horrible sad news :(((( my love RIP I live to never forget you!!"

Thierry had dressed big names like Lady GaGa, Cardi B, Beyonce Knowles, Katy Perry, Rihanna, David Bowie and many others. He retired from fashion in 2002, but made the exception to design under his name "House of Mugler" for the Met Gala in 2019, and for his friend Kim Kardashian.
