In addition to this, the 'Tron Legacy' actor is facing a negligence lawsuit filed by the alleged victims after allegedly causing a 'horrible' head-on collision while drunk back in January 2020.

AceShowbiz - Garrett Hedlund has gotten his freedom back. Just a few hours after he was taken into police custody for public intoxication following his split from Emma Roberts, the "Tron Legacy" star was unveiled to have been released from jail.

A representative for Franklin County, Tennessee confirmed to TMZ that the 37-year-old actor was released from custody on a $2,100 bond on Sunday, January 23. The spokesperson also told the outlet that he's due back in court in March.

Garrett was arrested on Saturday evening while he was in Franklin County, Tennessee. His arrest occurred just one day after the news broke that he split from his girlfriend Emma. The two share one child together, one-year-old son Rhodes.

According to reports, Garrett and Emma, who celebrated their son's 1st birthday last month with a rode-themed party, broke things off a few weeks ago, following a rocky few months in their relationship. A source told PEOPLE, "It's sad, and they are trying their best to co-parent. It's been hard."

Prior to his recent arrest, Garrett was being sued by a woman named Marina Venegas and her daughter Jennifer Castillo for negligence after allegedly causing a "horrible" head-on collision while drunk in Los Angeles back in January 2020, which led to him being arrested.

At the time, Garrett was released on bail with a court date set for February 25 that year. The "Country Strong" star later pleaded no contest to one count and was found guilty while the second DUI charge was dismissed.

The suit claimed Garrett allegedly "passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle and ran a solid red-light at a high rate of speed," colliding with a Nissan Sentra containing Marina, Jennifer and two minor children. As a result of the crash, the passengers suffered "severe and permanent injuries" and had to be taken to the emergency room.

"Hedlund's conduct was despicable in that he knew and was educated in the dangers presented to Plaintiffs and the public when he operated a vehicle while intoxicated," the complaint read. "There was a very strong odor of hard liquor emitting from Hedlund's breath, body, and the cab of the Jeep despite the windows being open/broken."

At the time, Garrett's blood level tested at .36 percent, four times the legal limit of .08. In the court documents, Maria and Jennifer noted that the "Triple Frontier" actor "could have taken a taxi or called a ride-share, but refused to do so." They are asking for punitive damages and a jury trial.
