The 'Saturday Night Live' star joins 'Spider-Man' actor Tom Holland, who is also reportedly considered for the hosting gig at the annual award-giving event.

AceShowbiz - After three years of going without a host, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) is bringing back its annual ceremony to normal this year. People are starting to question who will be taking the hosting gig and comedian Pete Davidson is reportedly one of the contenders.

According to Page Six, the "Saturday Night Live" star is in talks to host the 2022 Academy Awards as his representatives are talking with the event's producers. He is being considered for the gig after his and Miley Cyrus's New Year's Eve special on NBC earned 6.3 million viewers.

The news outlet noted that the Academy is looking to bring in younger viewers. "[Pete] gets a demographic that is hard to get. He is in a good space, his career is doing well and he is on the rise. He is a sex symbol, unlikely, but he is big with a certain generation," the news outlet added.

The news arrived after it was reported that Tom Holland is running for the hosting gig. The Academy allegedly reached out to the "Spider-Man: No Way Home" actor after he expressed interest in hosting the Oscars.

The British star said in a December interview with THR that he would be open to hosting the Academy Awards in the future, if his schedule allows. "And you know I would love to do that - I love that kind of thing, I love being put under pressure and doing things that I feel uncomfortable doing," he revealed. "So I'm interested in it, but I just don't have the time."

Craig Erwich, president Hulu Originals & ABC Entertainment, confirmed earlier this week that the 2022 Oscars will be overseen by one person. "You heard it here first," he said during ABC's portion of the Television Critics Association virtual press tour on Tuesday, January 11, though he didn't reveal who willl host the annual award-giving event.

The 2022 Academy Awards is scheduled to take place on March 27 and air on ABC.
