In a new interview, the 'When I Think of You' songstress also shares how she felt about being included in 'important' social justice conversations about gender bias.

AceShowbiz - Janet Jackson has reflected on the infamous Super Bowl incident that happened back in 2004. When addressing the "nipplegate" scandal, the sister of Michael Jackson revealed that it's still "tough" for her to talk about it.
In a new cover story interview for Allure's February issue, the Grammy-winning artist briefly addressed her halftime performance with Justin Timberlake at Super Bowl. She said, "It's tough for me to talk about that time," marking the first time she has spoken openly about the scandal since appearing on Oprah Winfrey's talk show back in 2006.
"What's really important is going back to having that foundation. Not just family, but God. That's what really pulled me through," Janet added. The publication then asked the 55-year-old star about how she felt about being included in social justice conversations about gender bias.
The "When I Think of You" songstress shared, "Whether I want to be part of that conversation or not, I am part of that conversation." She further stressed, "I think it's important. Not just for me, but for women. So I think it's important that conversation has been had. You know what I mean? And things have changed obviously since then for the better."
Elsewhere during the conversation, Janet also discussed the shift in beauty standards in the industry and becoming comfortable with her body. She told the outlet that "the Janet era" was about "embracing [herself] and trying to learn to love [herself] for [her]."
"Trying to feel comfortable in embracing that. Throwing myself in the lion's den. Just going for it, wanting to do something different," Janet explained. She went on to admit that "it took a lot of work, a lot of work," before pointing out, "It was something very tough, very difficult. But I'm glad I walked through it. I'm really glad I got in. It was a way of accepting and loving, accepting yourself and your body."
Prior to her interview with Allure, Janet has hinted that she's not happy with "The New York Times Presents" documentary about her "nipplegate" scandal. Shortly after "Malfunction: The Dressing Down of Janet Jackson" premiered, she reportedly wanted the film to "go away."
"She wants that documentary to go away," Janet's former stylist Wayne Scot Lukas told Page Six last November. The fashion consultant added, "She didn't ask for a 'Free Janet' documentary. She's not interested."
Wayne further shared that Janet specifically asked those who have worked with her to not participate in the tell-all. "She asked us not to do it. She wants to tell her own story," he explained to the outlet. Wayne added that Janet "will have her final say" in her upcoming documentary "JANET" produced by A&E and Lifetime, which is scheduled to be released this month.
