The actress portraying nurse Judy on 'Pose' reveals the reasons why her former best friend's relationships 'don't last' as she opens up about the mysterious demise of their friendship in a new interview.

AceShowbiz - Sandra Bernhard has weighed in on her and Madonna's infamous rift. When opening up about the mysterious demise of their friendship, the nurse Judy depicter on "Pose" alleged that the "Papa Don't Preach" singer "doesn't want" to be friends with her.

Speaking in the latest episode of the "Hot Takes and Deep Dives" podcast, the 66-year-old star said, "I guess for a while we had a real friendship, but it's hard for somebody like [Madonna]. She doesn't really want somebody around who reflects too much of who she is." The comedienne went on to cryptically say, "Therefore, her relationships just don't last."

Elsewhere during the conversation, Sandra hinted that she didn't love the intense spotlight that came with their friendship. "I didn't really like that level of visibility and having to work it constantly," she explained.

"We all as performers work it to a certain degree, but I'm a very improvisational person, on stage and in my life, and I don't like being tied down in having to be a certain way for my image," Sandra elaborated further. "What I tried to impart in our friendship is, 'I'm really your friend, I'm not just somebody that's passing through.' "

Sandra and Madonna had one of the most iconic celebrity friendships of the '80s and '90s before they mysteriously fell out in 1992. The podcast interview, however, wasn't the first time that Sandra has opened up about her friendship with the pop legend.

In 2019, Sandra told Us Weekly that she'd "seen Madonna over the years" and there wasn't any drama between them anymore. The "Roseanne" actress added, "We're cool with each other, you know. But people move on and you have your life. I have a daughter, my girlfriend. I have my career, my life. And, you know, things do change."

Long before that, Sandra told Wendy Williams in 2011 that she wished her friendship with Madonna had "lasted longer." She even stressed that she had "forgiven" Madonna, saying, "Certain people can't handle those kinds of friendships. That's not my style. I like to maintain my friendships throughout my life. It's okay, you know. All is forgiven."

Sandra and Madonna became friends in the late '80s. They were even rumored to be lovers at one point. They famously appeared in a 1988 episode of "Late Night with David Letterman" together. Sandra was also featured in Madonna's 1991 documentary "Truth or Dare". However, their friendship appeared to crumble immediately after the film's release.
