AceShowbiz - Drake is honoring Virgil Abloh with art. More than three weeks after the latter's death, the "Certified Lover Boy" artist got himself a photo-realistic tattoo of the late fashion designer.
Giving fans a look at Drake's new body art was Joaquin Ganga via Instagram. On Wednesday, December 22, the Los Angeles-based tattoo artist shared a black-and-white picture of the Canadian star's new ink on his forearm.
The tattoo design showed a man from the back in the process of throwing a paper airplane. Joaquin tagged Virgil's Instagram account and put the handler on the man in the tattoo. Alongside the caption, he wrote, "A remembrance of the great Virgil Abloh done on Drake."
Virgil passed away at the age of 41 on November 28. He died after secretly battling cardiac angiosarcoma, a rare, aggressive form of cancer, for two years. Upon learning of the shocking news, Drake took to his Instagram to offer a tribute to the Off-White founder and former Louis Vuitton artistic director.
Posting some pictures of him with his late pal, the 35-year-old Grammy-winning rapper wrote, "My plan is to touch the sky 1000 more times for you…love you eternally brother." He then added, "thank you for everything."
Aside from Drake, the likes of Justin Timberlake, BTS (Bangtan Boys), Offset, Kelly Rowland, Busta Rhymes and Bruno Mars shared tributes to Virgil. As for Kanye West, he dedicated his Sunday Service to the late entrepreneur in which his choir performed a rendition of Adele's "Easy On Me" to honor him.
The "Donda" artist also attended Virgil's funeral in Chicago on December 6. In addition to the Yeezy designer, his estranged wife Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, Tyler, the Creator, and Lauryn Hill were in attendance.
Kanye, who is reportedly in talks to replace Virgil at Louis Vuitton, were close friends. Before becoming the brand's first black artistic director, Virgil was a longtime creative director for Kanye's company, Donda. He got involved when Kanye released 2011's "Watch the Throne", his collaborative album with Jay-Z.
