AceShowbiz - Skilyr Hicks has passed away. According to her family, the former contestant of "America's Got Talent" was found lifeless in the home of a friend following mental health issues. She died at the age of 23.

The young singer-songwriter, who appeared in season 8 of NBC's talent show, passed away on Monday, December 6, TMZ reported. Though the exact circumstances and cause of her death are still unknown, her mother, Jodi, admitted that "her daughter battled with mental health issues, including depression and substance abuse."

Jodi added that Skilyr was loved by her family and four siblings. Jodi also said that Skilyr had been using her music to help people in need. The mother continued, "She will live on through her music."

Following her time as a contestant on "AGT", Skilyr faced some legal troubles. According to the outlet, the young artist was arrested for underage drinking in 2018. She also spent some time in jail after allegedly fighting her family members.

Skilyr appeared on "AGT" back in 2013 when she was just 14-years-old. The young musician auditioned for judges Melanie Brown, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Howard Stern. She impressed the panel of judges with her performance of an original song and moved on to the next round.

In addition to showcasing her vocals and guitar playing skills, Skilyr caught fans' attention by sharing an emotional backstory. She revealed that she had lost her father a few years before the audition, explaining in a confessional, "He made some bad decisions and I hadn't seen him in a few years."

"The last time I saw him I remember driving away and he was crying," Skilyr continued. "After his funeral, I wrote my first song. It's kind of like a message that came too late for my dad, but I know if he could see me now he would be really proud of me." Despite scoring yeses from all four judges, Skilyr was eliminated before the live rounds in New York City.
