The former 'Hot in Cleveland' star, who tied the knot with the financial planner on New Year's Day in 2011, reportedly cites 'irreconcilable differences' as the reason for separation.

AceShowbiz - Valerie Bertinelli has called it quits with husband Tom Vitale. Having been married to the financial planner and entrepreneur for 10 years, the "Hot in Cleveland" alum filed for legal separation from him.

The 61-year-old actress filed the documents in Los Angeles on Wednesday, November 24. According to TMZ, she listed "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for separation.

In the documents, it was unveiled that Valerie and Tom "have a prenuptial agreement to handle the split of all assets." Valerie also requested the court's right to award spousal support to either person be terminated.

Valerie and Tom had dated for six years. It's reported that she was introduced to Tom by her younger brother Patrick back in 2004. The now-exes later got married on New Year's Day in 2011, several months after they got engaged during a romantic trip to Florence, Italy.

Prior to that, Valerie was married to Eddie Van Halen. The actress and the late Van Halen star tied the knot in 1981 but parted ways in 2001. They later finalized their divorce in 2007.

In October this year, Valerie shared a heartfelt tribute to her ex-husband after he lost his battle with throat cancer. At that time, she took to her Instagram account to post a black-and-white picture of her, her ex and their son. In the accompaniment of the post, the mother of one first penned, "40 years ago my life changed forever when I met you. You gave me the one true light in my life, our son, Wolfgang."

"Through all your challenging treatments for lung cancer, you kept your gorgeous spirit and that impish grin," the Food Network star added. "I'm so grateful Wolfie and I were able to hold you in your last moments. I will see you in our next life my love."
