Declaring himself as a dog- and an animal-lover' the 'Leave Right Now' singer joins protesters from Camp Beagle campaigning for the closure of MBR Acres in Wyton.

AceShowbiz - Animal lover Will Young has handcuffed himself to the gates of a research laboratory in Cambridgeshire, England to protest the use of dogs in testing.

The singer joined protesters from Camp Beagle campaigning for the closure of MBR Acres in Wyton, and told reporters people need to be aware that scientists still experiment on man's best friend in the United Kingdom. "People are unaware there is still animal testing in this country and it is not needed," he said.

Activists have demanded the release of all the dogs held at the facility and an end to the use of beagles in laboratory testing.

"I am a dog-lover, an animal-lover and a human-lover; I come with no hate and aggression," Young added. "I couldn't sit at home and not do nothing (to) bring attention to the plight of these animals [sic]."

"All protests, all movements, need little boosts. As someone who has (fans and followers), I couldn't sit at home and just write another song or another book."

Young agreed to unlock his handcuffs and free himself from the railings after police officers asked him to call off his protest.

About Young's response, Cambridgeshire Police said, "Officers spoke to a man handcuffed to the gates and he has since released himself from the handcuffs and moved away from the entrance. Our response to the protests in Wyton has been impartial and proportionate, balancing the right to protest with the right of staff at the site to go about their lawful work."

Young's not the only star calling for the closure of the facility and the release of the dogs - Ricky Gervais has also been part of the ongoing campaign.
