'Bones' Star Heath Freeman Dies in His Sleep at Age 41

The actor best known for portraying serial killer Howard Epps on medical series 'Bones' has passed away in his sleep at his home in Austin, Texas at the age of 41.

The screen star, most famous for playing serial killer Howard Epps in two seasons of medical drama "Bones", passed away at his home in Austin, Texas, on Saturday (13Nov21).

His death was first announced on Instagram by reality TV star Shanna Moakler and was confirmed by his manager Joe S. Montifiore, who told Deadline in a statement, "We are truly devastated at the loss of our beloved Heath Freeman. A brilliant human being with an intense and soulful spirit, he leaves us with an indelible imprint in our hearts. His life was filled with deep loyalty, affection, and generosity towards his family and friends, and an extraordinary zest for life."

"He was extremely proud of his recent film work and was very excited for the next chapter of his career. His remarkable legacy as a son, brother, uncle, friend, extraordinarily gifted actor and producer, consummate cook, and man with the most infectious and spectacular laugh, will live on forever. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him."

In addition to his role on "Bones", Freeman appeared in TV shows including "ER", "NCIS", "The Closer", and "Without a Trace".

His last role was in Michael Polish's film "Terror on the Prairie", in which he co-starred with Gina Carano. The movie is still listed as "filming" on movie site IMDB.com, and Carano was among those paying tribute to Freeman following the news of his death.

"I was just giving you a big wrap party hug a week ago. I wanted to keep you for a lifetime and now I am going to carry you for a lifetime in my heart," she wrote. "I didn't know our journey would be cut this short and my heart is shattering. I wanted so much more time to laugh, cry, create, live, love with your friendship. Heath truly was so special, so fierce and precious, protective gentle and brave. He made me feel safe. He took care of everyone around him."

"I am so blessed to know him for the time I did. Rest In Peace Heath Freeman.. my sweet, passionate friend. I'll be missing you and praying for your loved ones."

A cause of death has yet to be confirmed, but co-star Gabriel Kane - the son of Daniel Day-Lewis - wrote in his Instagram tribute that Freeman "passed away in his sleep."
