The 'Ant-Man and the Wasp' star is announced as the newest Sexiest Man Alive on 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert', though a previous report said his MCU co-star Evans would take the title.

AceShowbiz - PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive 2021 has been unveiled, but he may not be the one that some people had been expecting to hear. Paul Rudd has been crowned the title, instead of his Marvel co-star Chris Evans who was recently rumored to have been chosen for the honor.

The announcement was first made in Tuesday night's (November 9) episode of "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert". "Right now, there is one major question on absolutely everyone's minds: Who will be PEOPLE Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive for 2021? In these divided times, it's the last thing that all Americans care about," host Stephen Colbert said, noting how this year's guesses ranged from Evans to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

"Well, all the speculation ends tonight, ladies and gentlemen, because it is my distinct honor to have been chosen by the good people at PEOPLE to be the official person to announce this year's Sexiest Man Alive," he added, "and it is not a responsibility that I take lightly."

Claiming to be a Sexiness Adjudicator, Colbert ran a series of tests and assessments on Rudd in pre-taped videos before finally revealing the results to the actor, who was overwhelmed with emotion at the end of the gag. He then delivered the news to the audience, "Congratulations to Paul Rudd on officially - and this is true - being named PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive 2021."

After the news made its round on the web, some people expressed their shock as they thought that it would've been Evans. "ok but what did chris evans do to you?????" one person posed a question to PEOPLE.

A fan of the Captain America depicter claimed, "Chris Evans deserves better." Another asked, "Ohkay wasn't it Chris Evans?" A fourth similarly enquired, "What about Chris." Someone else pointed out, "It should've been Chris Evans."

"congrats to him but i'm still wishing my baby daddy (Evans) won," another fan of Evans' said. "Listen I'm not mad about it because I love Paul Rudd.. but I really wanted Chris evans to get this title," wrote another. Someone else commented, "What and everyone thought it was going go be Chris Evans ???"

Rudd's fans, meanwhile, couldn't agree more with the decision. "See, i can't disagree about Paul Rudd - we love him he is gorgeous," one person gushed. Another said, "Ummm yeah, it's about time. Well deserved indeed."

A third fan congratulated the actor, "For real?! That's awesome! Congrats #PaulRudd." Someone else remarked, "Makes sense. Fans have been crushin' on this guy since he was Phoebe's boyfriend. And yet somehow he hasn't aged at all?" Another declared, "100% agree!" while another added, "As he should."

Earlier this month, Page Six reported that Evans had been chosen to take the crown this year and would be gracing the magazine's cover of its special annual edition. "Chris was in discussions to take the cover last year, but it was not great timing," a source told the site.

The site went on mentioning the "Knives Out" star's nude picture scandal last year, though sources at PEOPLE allegedly told the outlet that the accidental photo leak had nothing to do with the 40-year-old hunk not being named the 2020 Sexiest Man Alive.
