When defending her character on the hit Netflix series, the 'Love, Rosie' actress says that 'it's sad' to see people who claim Emily Cooper's character is 'a lot.'

AceShowbiz - Lily Collins is defending Emily Cooper. The "Love, Rosie" actress spoke out against critics who called her character on "Emily in Paris" "annoying" in a new interview ahead of season 2 of the hit Netflix series.

The 32-year-old actress stood up for Emily during her interview with Nylon published on Thursday, October 28. "A lot of the qualities that Emily has, if you put them on paper, would seem so annoying," she confessed.

"To have someone be optimistic, bright and bubbly, it's sad to think that people would look and go, 'That's a lot,' " Lily continued. She added, "They're such beautiful qualities and the fact that she can partner that with being vulnerable and asking for help and making mistakes, she's not infallible."

Lily also addressed the criticism "Emily in Paris" received for its unrealistic ideas about the French people and culture. "I think that this is a heightened reality for Emily, to be moving to Paris, and what she experiences and what she sees," the "The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones" actress added. "It's just that when you put them all together in a TV show that also aesthetically looks the way it does, it's a little less believable."

Elsewhere in the interview, Lily discussed the comparisons between Emily and the "Sex and the City" character Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, since Darren Star is the creator of both series. "She's in no way mimicking Carrie's life," Lily insisted, adding that her character could have been a fan of the stylish New Yorker. She said, "Emily probably grew up having Carrie Bradshaw posters on her wall."

"Emily in Paris" season 2 will premiere on Wednesday, December 22. Netflix previously gave fans a first glimpse at the upcoming season with a clip that saw Emily and her friends sailing off to St. Tropez for a vacation with luxury hotels, lavish parties and gorgeous selfie backgrounds. The teaser ended with a phrase that read, "Your French holiday awaits!"
