The 'Can't Even Get the Blues' singer confirms that plans to remake the 1991 dramedy originally starring Kathy Bates and Jessica Tandy have been abandoned.

AceShowbiz - Country star Reba McEntire's planned television remake of "Fried Green Tomatoes" is not moving forward.

The singer and actress is disappointed the potential series won't be made after U.S. executives at NBC passed on it but she understands that's how "showbiz" often works.

"It was a great idea, it had a great script written for it. That's showbiz," she told Taste of Country Nights' podcast "On Demand".

The news that Reba would star in the small screen remake of the beloved 1991 film was first reported by Variety last year (Oct20), who also indicated Emmy-winning Hollywood legend Norman Lear was set to executive produce the series.

"It just kinda went away, unfortunately. We were right in there in the running and they passed on it," Reba explained.

But she's not too worried because she's working on "a lot" of other projects.

"What I've learned from Fried Green Tomatoes is you'd better have lots of balls in the air and plates spinning, because you never know which one is going to go through," she noted.

"Yeah, we're working on a lot of different projects. Hopefully, fingers crossed, one of them will go through."

Reba McEntire recently guest-starred on "Young Sheldon". She has also been tapped for an upcoming holiday TV movie called "Christmas in Tune".

On the big screen, the country music crooner previously lent her voice to a character in 2019's animated film "Spies in Disguise". She will next appear in new comedy flick "Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar".
