After her tweet that suggested the reality star was the wrong choice became a big deal, the former 'Will and Grace' star offers her apology and assures that she was rooting for her.

AceShowbiz - Debra Messing has apologized to Kim Kardashian for suggesting the reality star was the wrong choice to host "Saturday Night Live" earlier this month (October 2021).

When Kim was announced as one of the first four hosts of the new season of the sketch comedy show last month (September 2021), the former "Will & Grace" star jumped on Twitter and asked why.

She added, "I know she is a cultural icon, but 'SNL' has hosts, generally, who are performers who are there to promote a film, TV show, or album launch."

Her tweet became a big deal and, during an appearance on "Tamron Hall Show" on Wednesday, October 20, Messing publicly apologized to Kim and explained she was simply "confused" and didn't mean to belittle Kardashian, who did a great job as host and helped "SNL" pick up a big ratings boost.

"Well, I was not intending to troll her and, you know, if anybody took it that way, I apologize," Messing told Hall. "That was never my intention. She is this phenomenon. I mean, you know, she is a cultural icon."

"I grew up with 'SNL'. I love comedy, and they have had, for decades, this sort of formula. And I noticed that they changed the formula, and I was like, 'Oh, does she have a new TV show coming out? Does she have a book coming out? Is she in a movie?' And she didn't have anything coming out."

"I watched her and I thought she was amazing, and I was rooting for her. If you know me, and you follow me, then you know that I consistently lift up women. I support women."
