'Tutankhamun: The Last Exhibition' will revisit the archaeological history of the child king's tomb, starting with its discovery in 1922 to the preparation of its 2019 successful touring exhibition.

AceShowbiz - Rocker Iggy Pop is taking fans on a journey through history by narrating a new documentary all about Egypt's King Tutankhamun.

The "Lust for Life" star has lent his voice to "Tutankhamun: The Last Exhibition", which will revisit the archaeological history of the child king's tomb, starting with its discovery in 1922 and running through to the preparation involved ahead of the hugely successful touring exhibition, which opened in Los Angeles in 2019.

The original Italian version of the film has been narrated by musician Manuel Agnelli, but for the English release, producers at Laboratoriorosso and Nexo Digital decided Pop had the best voice for the job.

Nexo Digital's Rosella Gioffre told Variety, "We were looking for somebody that could give a different appeal to the narration of the movie, and we thought of [Pop] and he accepted."

Antiquities photographer and Laboratoriorosso chief Sandro Vannini added, "When we heard his voice for the first time we said, 'This is the voice. This is what we need for this film.' The voice of Iggy Pop is simply incredible."

"When he read the story what he was going to narrate he was immediately keen to work with us [sic]," Vannini went on sharing.

The making of the documentary was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the timing has actually worked out in producers' favor as they prepare for a 2022 release. "We're more than happy because we're going to hit the centenary of the discovery," shared Gioffre.

Pop's signing as the documentary's narrator came just a few months after he was cast for a dark comedy titled "Blue Iguana". In it, he will portray a wealthy patriarch whose death kicks off a chain of unfortunate events for his son.
