AceShowbiz - Cheryl Burke has taken a serious step to prevent a relapse. The "Dancing with the Stars" pro-dancer, who previously admitted that she has been thinking about "drinking again" after nearly three years of sobriety, revealed that she has attended her first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.
The 37-year-old got candid about her sobriety journey when speaking to Kaylee Hartung for "Good Morning America" interview. "I needed help, I knew that if I didn't take that step forward to be a part of Alcoholics Anonymous, I don't know... I don't know if I'd be sitting here today with you," she told Kaylee.
Cheryl then divulged what made her hesitate to attend the program in the past. "I deal with a lot of social anxiety," she spilled. "But I've realized that I needed to be able to hear other people's stories, other people who struggle with alcoholism and addiction."
"It is extremely powerful to be able to confess and to do so before anything, God forbid I relapse," the wife of actor Matthew Lawrence pointed out. "But I just needed something more to help me feel like I'm not alone."
Cheryl has previously opened up about her sobriety journey in her YouTube video. In a clip posted on June 29, she explained, "I'm here to confess that lately staying sober has been a little bit of a challenge for me. And recently I've been thinking a lot, I have to admit, about drinking again... So, I decided to hold myself accountable by confessing my anxious feelings."
Cheryl then disclosed one of the "triggers" that made her nearly fall off the wagon. "Us being in Hawaii, just that carefree feeling of being under the sun, my husband may have had a glass of champagne, my senses have come back even stronger ever since I decided to stop drinking. So, the smell of it I missed," she elaborated.
