AceShowbiz - Tyler Herro has proven that he cares about his surroundings. Hours after a 12-story condo building partially collapsed in Surfside, Florida, the Miami Heat star went to the scene to offer a helping hand.
The 21-year-old arrived on-site on Thursday morning, June 24 along with his assistant coaches Chris Quinn and Eric Glass. In a video surfacing online, the trio could be seen offloading water bottles and other supplies from a car.
Another clip, meanwhile, saw Tyler thanking frontline workers for their hard work. For the occasion, the basketball player opted to go with a gray hoodie, shorts, sneakers and a dark hat.
Speaking about the aid was Miami Heat vice president, Steve Stowe. "This is 12 miles from our arena,'' Steve told the press. "We heard about this, and our immediate reaction was that we had to find a way to help."
The team itself has issued its own statement regarding the incident. "We were devastated to hear of the catastrophic Champlain Towers building collapse in Surfside," the team said. "Our hearts go out to the victims and their families. We are thankful for the first responders who are working around the clock in rescue efforts."
The Heat reportedly has joined forces with World Central Kitchen and Direct Relief to offer more help. They were said to have secured some food trucks for the rescuers and other personnel at the scene.
In addition, the team allegedly was working to help find accommodations for those impacted by the collapse. "These are the moments when a community has to come together, rise up and help," Steve pointed out.
Aside from the Miami Heat, the Miami Marlins also lent a hand for the victims. "In support of our community during today's tragic event, we sent three vans filled with meals and water to the rescue workers and kits of essential items and toiletries to the residents who have been displaced and families who have been impacted," the latter penned on Twitter.
