The superhero series starring Josh Duhamel is abandoned by Netflix after just one season but a new project taking place in the same universe is announced by the streamer.

AceShowbiz - Josh Duhamel, Leslie Bibb, and the cast of their superhero series "Jupiter's Legacy" have been released from their contracts after Netflix bosses decided not to move forward with a second season.

Mark Millar, who created the comic book franchise on which the show is based, announced the news via Twitter, less than a month after the series' premiere.

However, he isn't parting ways with Netflix just yet - officials have optioned a live-action adaptation of "Supercrooks", which takes place in the same realm as "Jupiter's Legacy" but focuses on the adventures of supervillains.

"I'm really proud of what the team achieved with Jupiter's Legacy and the amazing work everyone did on that origin season," he shared in a lengthy statement.

"I've been asked a lot about what we're planning next with this world, and the answer is to see what the super-villains are getting up to."

He continued, "Given where we're going next, we've made the tough call of letting our incredible cast out of their show commitment as we continue to thoughtfully develop all realms of the Jupiter's Legacy saga."

However, Millar hopes to one day revive the show. "We're confident we'll return to it later and just want to say thanks to you guys for your continued support and to the cast and crew who made this look so great," he added.

"Jupiter's Legacy" was directed by "Daredevil" 's Steven S. DeKnight but failed to win over critics, earning a string of negative reviews upon its debut.

Meanwhile, fans of Millar's "Supercrooks" comics will first be treated to an anime-style adaptation before the live-action version premieres at a later date.
