The late Los Angeles Lakers player is scheduled to be honored with a posthumous award at the upcoming Los Angeles Area Emmys for his humanitarian works.

AceShowbiz - Kobe Bryant will be posthumously honoured with the prestigious Governors Award at the 72nd Los Angeles Area Emmys prizegiving next month, July 2020.
The basketball legend, who died in a helicopter crash in January aged just 41, was selected for the award by the L.A. Area Governors Award committee in honour of his, "philanthropy, community building and inspiration that extended beyond the basketball court."
According to America's Television Academy, who run the event, Bryant, who led the Los Angeles Lakers for two decades, "championed a number of worthy causes and critical issues, becoming an ambassador for women's basketball, a mentor and youth advocate, and raised awareness of homelessness in Los Angeles."
In the announcement posted on their website, Academy chiefs also explained the honour "is presented to an individual, company or organisation that has made an outstanding, innovative and visionary achievement in the arts, sciences or management of television as well as a substantial contribution to the greater Los Angeles area."
The award will be presented during the 72nd Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards on Saturday July 18, 2020. The nominations for local L.A. shows were announced on Monday, June 8, 2020 with public broadcaster KCET leading the way with 20 nods.
