AceShowbiz - Pete Davidson was close to taking his own life during a dark period of time in his life. More than one year after raising concern over his well-being through a troubling Instagram post, the cast member of "Saturday Night Live" opened up about his struggles with suicidal thoughts, admitting he got scarily close to harming himself.
The 26-year-old sat down with "CBS Sunday Morning" for a new interview about his semi-autobiographical film "The King of Staten Island". During the sit-down aired on Sunday, June 7, the topic of his 2018 suicide scare was brought up, prompting him to confess, "I got as close as you can get. I mean, just, like testing the waters."
Speaking further about his battle with mental health issues, the ex-fiance of Ariana Grande went on to spill, "Until I met the right treatments and met the right doctors and did all the work that you need to do to not feel that way, it got pretty dark and scary."
During the interview, Davidson also acknowledged that one particular scene in his upcoming film did happen in real life. Referring to the scene in which he drove with closed eyes, he said, "That's true. I used to do that." He added, "That's horrible to say. But yeah, I used to close my eyes on a closed road, usually at night. And I would drive without a seatbelt."
When discussing the Judd Apatow-directed movie itself, the comedian credited it for helping him come to terms with the loss of his firefighter father on 9/11 terrorist attack. Claiming that the work he did for the film was a "cleansing" for him, he explained, "I feel like I got to speak about it in the biggest way possible to get my story out there. I feel like now I could let it go."
Davidson got many to worry about his well-being back in mid-December 2018 after he wrote on Instagram, "I really don't want to be on this earth anymore." In the since-deleted post, he added, "I'm doing my best to stay here for you but i actually don't know how much longer i can last. All i've ever tried to do was help people. Just remember i told you so."
The comedian's alarming post quickly caught the attention of his famous friends, including Jon Cryer, Machine Gun Kelly and Kid Cudi, who responded with positive messages. It also got his ex Grande tweeting a series of posts, telling him she was "not going anywhere if you need anyone or anything." Cryer later informed fans that Davidson was safe and accounted for.
