Among the many celebrities condemning the death of George Floyd, the Fifth Harmony member reminds fans to keep their mental health in check while trying to make a difference.

AceShowbiz - Pop star Lauren Jauregui is scaling back her social media activity to find more impactful ways to make a difference as part of the Black Lives Matter movement.

The Fifth Harmony singer has been among the many celebrities to condemn the death of African-American man George Floyd at the hands of a white police officer in Minnesota last week (May 25), and join calls online demanding action to end social and racial injustice.

However, as protesters continue to march across the U.S. and the globe, Jauregui has decided she needs to spend more time on the ground, helping to bring about change in person instead of staying glued to her Twitter timeline.

The 23-year-old also admits her social media use has been so unhealthy in recent days, she has been unable to eat or sleep properly, and her mental health is really suffering.

In a lengthy note shared with followers on Wednesday, June 03, she began, "Goodmorning (sic) lovelies, I'm not gonna lie, the past few days have been overwhelming beyond measure. Both on a public level watching everything going on and a personal level."

"I haven't eaten or slept since Friday and have been nonstop with conversation and just trying to calm the helpless feeling in my chest and haven't created a sustainable way to handle it."

"I'm gonna be taking a step back from social media to truly organize in real life and get a grip on what my role in this fight truly is," Jauregui continued. "I've been trying to keep people updated but honestly I'm making myself sick with the lack of balance."

"Spent 9 hours straight watching and retweeting and trying to change minds and truly awaken people's empathy but the work that needs to be done goes beyond social media and I'm becoming more and more aware of that."

The star goes on to reveal she will be finding campaigns to join in her hometown of Miami, Florida, while still sharing supportive posts as part of the #AmplifyMelenatedVoices movement, and urges her fans to prioritise their own mental health, as she is now doing.

"Im (sic) not going to disappear, I'm not going to back down, I'm just taking a step back and reintroducing balance into my life so I don't burn out and can actually do something impactful instead of come on here all frustrated and angry," Jauregui concluded.

"I love each and every one of you and I hope you also find balance and incorporate ways to keep your mental health in check at this time, it's intense and that's ok (sic)."

Jauregui's post emerged hours before Minnesota authorities filed additional charges against Derek Chauvin, the officer caught on camera kneeling on Floyd's neck for nearly nine minutes, leading to his death.

He was initially fired from his job and then charged with third degree murder and second degree manslaughter on Friday, and now Attorney General Keith Ellison has added second degree murder to the counts.

Chauvin's three fellow arresting officers, who were also terminated from their posts, have since also been slapped with charges of aiding and abetting second degree murder after failing to intervene.
