AceShowbiz - Filmmaker James Cameron and his wife have signed on as guardians for their daughter's 16-year-old friend.
The "Avatar" director and Suzy Amis Cameron filed a petition to take charge of the teenager, whose parents are too ill and financially strapped to care for her.
According to documents, obtained by The Blast, the unnamed teenager's parents recently separated and are no longer living together.
Cameron claims they are homeless and suffer substance abuse issues.
He reveals that he and his wife have become close to the teen because of the friendship she shares with their daughter.
In September 2019, the girl's parents allowed her to live with James and attend a private school in Calabasas, California, and she has been with the Camerons ever since.
James insists the teen's parents and grandparents have all signed off on the guardianship arrangement, and she is "thriving" at home with the Camerons, who have asked the court to approve their petition so they can "travel out of state and internationally with the minor" among other things.
